We have once again secured a grant for free Slovak courses

We have wonderful news for all international residents living in Slovakia. In 2026, International House Bratislava remains among the language schools that have been awarded a grant from the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic to support free Slovak language tuition for adult foreigners aged 16+.

If you live, work or study in Bratislava and want to learn Slovak, this opportunity is perfect for you – and it is completely free of charge.

What we offer – free Slovak courses in Bratislava

Thanks to the grant from the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic, we are once again able to offer free intensive Slovak language courses in Bratislava in 2026 at A1, A2 and B1 levels, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

  • A1 – for absolute beginners
  • A2 – for pre-intermediate students; this level is required for permanent residence
  • B1 – for intermediate students

Courses are held in-person at Moskovská 13 in Bratislava as well as online. The tuition is intensive.

Please note: Course registration is binding. The issuance of a certificate of completion is subject to regular attendance and completion of a feedback form.

Our courses take place in the pleasant premises of International House Bratislava at the following address:

We are easily accessible by public transport or on foot from the city centre.
In addition to in-person classes, we also offer online Slovak courses for those who cannot attend in person.

Frequently Asked Questions about the free Slovak course

Are the Slovak courses really free?

Yes. The courses are funded by a grant from the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic, so they are completely free for participants. You do not pay any fees for tuition, materials or the certificate of completion.

Who can enrol for the free Slovak course?

The courses are intended for adult foreigners aged 16 and over who live, work or study in Slovakia. Slovak citizenship or permanent residence is not required.

What is the difference between levels A1, A2 and B1?

  • A1 – absolute beginner, basic phrases and vocabulary
  • A2 – basic communication in common situations, often required for permanent residence
  • B1 – more independent and fluent communication in everyday life and at work

Can I take the course online?

Yes, some dates will also be available in an online format. Please check this site for up-to-date options.

What happens after I complete the course?

After successful completion of the course and with regular attendance, you will receive a certificate of completion. If you wish to prepare for the official A2 level Slovak exam, we also offer preparation for the A2 Slovak exam.

Where are the Slovak courses held in Bratislava?

In-person courses are held at Moskovská 13 in Bratislava, in the Staré Mesto (Old Town) district. Online courses take place via a video platform from the comfort of your home.
